Family Movie Night
There is something magical about staying home.
In a world that often feels busy and scheduled, some of our favorite family memories have come from the simplest evenings—pajamas, popcorn, blankets, and a movie we've seen a dozen times before.
Family movie night has become one of our favorite traditions because it doesn't require a lot of planning or expense, but it still feels special. It's an opportunity to slow down, spend uninterrupted time together, and create the kind of childhood memories that my kids will hopefully carry with them for years to come.
Over time, we've added a few little traditions that make our movie nights feel like an event instead of just watching television. The best part? Almost everything is inexpensive and easy to set up.
Build a Cozy Movie Bed
One of my kids' favorite parts of movie night isn't actually the movie—it's creating their own little theater.
We use our Nugget couches to build giant movie beds in the living room. Sometimes they're forts, sometimes they're oversized loungers, and sometimes they're simply covered with fluffy blankets and pillows.
I add soft throw blankets, oversized pillows, and dim the lights with lamps or twinkle lights. Instantly the entire room feels cozy.
It's amazing how moving movie night from the couch to the floor makes it feel like a special occasion.

Homemade Popcorn Is Part of the Tradition
No movie night is complete without popcorn.
Instead of microwave popcorn, I make ours on the stovetop. It only takes a few extra minutes, tastes so much better, and fills the entire house with that classic movie theater smell.
Once it's finished popping, I melt butter, sprinkle on sea salt, and serve it in fun popcorn bowls.
Sometimes we'll keep it classic, and other nights we'll make it extra fun by adding Parmesan cheese, cinnamon sugar, ranch seasoning, or even a drizzle of melted chocolate.
The kids love helping choose the toppings.

Our Favorite Part: The Snack Stand
This is hands-down the highlight of movie night.
Instead of simply handing everyone snacks, I turn our kitchen counter into a tiny movie theater concession stand.
I fill jars and baskets with candy, chocolate, gummies, popcorn seasonings, chips, and drinks.
Then I hand each of my kids fake movie money.
They get to "buy" whatever treats they'd like before the movie starts.
Watching them carefully count their money and decide whether to spend it all on candy or save some for another snack is honestly more entertaining than the movie sometimes.
It adds imagination and play to the evening and costs almost nothing to set up.
